It looks as though all those claims of former Android device users jumping ship for the iPhone 6 were true, after all. A new report from Bloomberg states that trade-ins for Samsung smartphones have tripled over at Gazelle, and that number may reach even higher. Indeed, the report states that almost a third of the the site's Android users plan to switch to Apple, with 39 percent reporting that the bigger screens are the deciding factor.
Presumably ahead of the announcement of the next iPhone at this year's WWDC, Apple has kicked off its iPhone upgrade event in an effort to get owners of older models to upgrade to the iPhone 5s or 5c. "It's a beautiful time for an upgrade," iPhone 4s owners are being told in e-mails from Apple, and signs with the same message were spotted in Apple retail stores as early as last week.
Best Buy delivered some exceptionally good trade-in deals over the summer, and now TechnoBuffalo reports (via MacRumors) that it'll soon offer customers a $100 gift card to put toward the purchase of an iPhone 5s or 5c with a trade-in of any working smartphone. Keep in mind that the offer's not official yet--it was discovered via a leaked internal document.
It's a very special rumor-laden Labor Day version of the hot news of the week. Did you hear Apple has a new iPhone in production? Well, of course you did. But what else did you hear about it? Anything? Anything at all? Well, we just so happen to have some choice iPhone 5S/C rumors (with video!) and a few other things in the pipeline. So if you aren't already sitting outside grilling for the weekend, have at the week's top news and innuendo.
Way back in June, we reported that Apple was planning on rolling out a trade-in program of its own "soon," but that "soon" has been pushed back from late June to sometime next month. Happily, it appears that next month's the real deal. Reports are coming in from 9toMac, MacRumors, and AllThingsD that Apple's already coaching select Apple Stores on how to implement the plan.
If you've been looking for a good reason to trade in your iPhone 4 or 4s for an iPhone 5, you'll have a hard time finding a better deal than Best Buy's promotion for Saturday--provided, that is, you meet the requirements. According to CNet, when you bring in your activated iPhone 4 or 4s into a physical Best Buy store tomorrow, you'll get a $150 credit toward the purchase of a new iPhone 5, essentially making it a free trade.
The rumor mill is really going into overdrive this week, foaming at the mouth on every little scrap related to iOS 7 or OS X 10.9, which are both expected sometime this year. But not everyone is enamored with these wild flights of fancy, so we're here to mix things up with some good old-fashioned tales ripped straight from the pages of real life. At least you won't have to wonder "when" or "if" with this batch of stories!
Apple's iPhone is finally coming to T-Mobile this Friday, and if you've been on the fence about dropping your existing iPhone carrier, the magenta network may have some extra incentive for you to do just that.
Unless you've been living in a cave somewhere, you're probably aware that Apple is holding a media event on Wednesday, presumably to announce the next iPhone -- and that means now is the time to cash in on your old model.
