We love Valve, and we love them even more now that their games are available for us Mac users. But do you know who loves Valve even more than we do? Our sister magazine and cubicle neighbors, PC Gamer. This week, the crew is publishing up six different interviews they've had with the Valve team, with the first discussion in their series detailing the game publisher's strategies for the future, as well as why they've given us hats for our beloved Team Fortress 2 characters (this editor usually plays Pyro).
More Portal 2 gameplay footage has been released at Gamescom. The high definition footage includes a first-person view through two of the levels, and a showcase of the game's seemingly realistic mechanics. It also offers a glimpse at two new features, like the Repulsion Gel, which enables you to bounce from any surface, and the Faith Plate. Watching the game almost feels like you're in the backseat of those virtual reality motion rides. Check it out after the cut!
We're anticipating that this puzzler game is going to be as awesome as it's predecessor. And if these teaser images from Gamescom are any indication, we're confident that we won't be let down. All of the photos are from the single player version of Portal 2 and detail the game's beautiful graphics, as well as give a bit of insight into the game's rendering effects. Portal 2 is slated for release February 9th, 2011 for the Mac, PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
We can't confirm this, nor deny it, but according to Game Informer, Portal 2 is allegedly slated for release on February 9th of next year. Like we said, whether this is true or not is entirely up in the air.
[Update] Valve has gotten back to us and has confirmed that Portal 2 will, indeed, be available through Steam on February 9th, 2011. Now go and mark your calendars.

The Mac version allows cross-platform play--much like Team Fortress 2--and this particular update also makes achievements, stats and engine updates available to Macs users via Steam.

While Steam on the Mac has only been out for a few weeks, many on the Mac|Life staff have fallen in love with the Valve game, Portal. Yesterday we got a glimpse at the Portal teaser trailer and today we have gameplay footage from E3.
Whether it was through neglect or indifference or a market focus elsewhere, certain kinds of gaming have long been a PC-dominant endeavor. iPhone game app sales likely helped draw some attention to Mac users' game lust. So it was a pretty big deal when Valve announced Steam was coming to Mac users everywhere. Now according to a Valve employee, those desires are going to be stoked even higher.
