Using a Mac since 1996. Am not really happy with IBM format for daily use, although work offers only that alternative. Hoping for the day our office will go Mac.
I am not really a computer-oriented person, and most of my life have been more into the person-to-person, face-to-face alternatives, altho' some online chat has been briefly interesting. The Mac is my best solution to having to do computer-like things, especially papers, which are so much easier to edit on a Mac. How I dread ever having to return to writing my papers on typewriters. My first great learning experience on a Mac was the old ClarisWorks 4, which enamored me forever with WP software and got me friendly with spreadsheets (finally, a way to use a computer for calculations and formulas that didn't require a degree in math! There was (is?) a great text for the beginner, called "The Mac Is Not a Typewriter," by a woman named Robin Williams (?), which was a GREAT benefit to me. Recommend it to all your newbie friends - if it is still published. I began with my dear, still-running and used (once a month or so) PB190cs, and end with my present-day white MacBook, which is blazingly fast and just what I need for my current work with Photoshop and InDesign. I now write with little TextEdit, saving my work in MSWord format for the people at the other end, and let them work with that old clunker. Best of the season to all out there! And thanks for keeping the magazine going. I, for one, prefer the new format to the first one, which I always thought was a bit childish.
